This site is freely available to any who wish to use it, as YOU 
have just demonstrated. If you have any concerns as to the use

The vast majority of us who contribute to this board have 
concerns about terrorism that threatens the world in its 
entirety. At present the focus of world attention is on 
Afghanistan in regards to the Taliban and the terrorists they 
have harboured.

If you had not noticed, people here have expressed their joy at 
seeing pictures and images of a liberated people in places such 
as Kabul, sentiments to which I concure. If the U.S. lead 
coalition had not bombed Taliban positions in the fashion they 
have done, this conflict would have lasted another 6 months. In 
the meantime, NO humanitarian aid would have been able to reach 
a starving population for fear of being looted by the Taliban 
and others. 

None of us are against decent law-abiding Afghans living a 
decent life. To aid that aim, what may I ask, are you yourself 
are doing about it? 

As a final question, what are so useful about your comments?  

Why is everyone so obsessed with Fred, as a Christian I thought 
he made some good points although they were totally irrelevant 
to our current crisis, he did seem to talk some sense one minute 
and then he was an offensive bigot the next.

citizens, condemned as fascist the statement by US 
General Wesley Clark, that the US war against terrorism 
"was a war over Islam" that would define Islam "as either a 
peaceful or militant" force in society. General Wesley K.

statement as outright fascism. The statement was aired on

PRESIDENT:
President General Pervez Musharraf has emphasised the 
need to put in place urgently a multi-ethnic and 
representative government in Kabul and to demilitarize it to 
avoid atrocities.
In a joint news conference with Turkish Prime Minister 
Bulent Ecevit in Istanbul last night, he said he had excellent 
exchange of views with Turkish Prime Minister and there 
was unanimity of views on Afghanistan.
The President said that we should work seriously on what 
future holds for Afghanistan and work as quickly as 
circumstances are changing for rehabilitation of the country 
and its people.
He said we must ensure stability of Afghanistan and there 
should be a government representing all multi ethnic 
groups.
The President said as operation culminates and political 
arrangements take place, it is very important that some kind 
of umbrella by UN forces or from OIC Muslim countries play 
a role .
Talking about post- Taliban scenario, he said as a member 
of the UN, OIC and part of the coalition, Pakistan and Turkey 
must play their role to fill the vacuum and bring a political 
arrangement on ground.
Answering a question he said there is no possibility of 
United States forces remaining in Central Asia.
He said we cannot accept any more refugees from 
Afghanistan and they should remain in their own area . 
Northern Alliance and any other group should not be 
allowed to enter Afghanistan.
President General Pervez Musharraf on his way back from 
New York to Istanbul made a brief stop over in Istanbul.
Over special correspondent Razaur Rehman says that 
Pakistan and Turkey have long standing deep brotherly 
relationship and the two countries share similar views on 
matters of international concern.
Earlier talking to newsmen in New York the President 
described the talks with President Bush and other leaders 
as successful and result oriented. 

UN-AFGHANISTAN:
The United Nations has spelt out a comprehensive plan for 
creating a broad-based transitional government and a new 
constitution in Afghanistan.
UN Secretary General Kofi Annan's special representative 
on Afghanistan Lakhdar Brahimi told a meeting of the UN 
Security Council that the plan was based on ideas widely 
discussed by the Afghans themselves.
Giving details of the plan Brahimi said a UN sponsored 
conference of all Afghanistan group would elect a 
provisional Council under an individual recognised as 
symbol of Afghanistan's unity around whom all ethnic, 
religious and regional groups could rally.
Brahimi said a Loya Jirga would meet to endorse the 
Council's proposals and would enable the transitional 
administration to draft a new constitution. He said a second 
Loya Jirga would approve the constitution and create the 
government of Afghanistan.
UN Secretary General Kofi Annan on this occasion urged 
the Security Council to avert a political and security vacuum 
in Afghanistan. He said Afghanistan presents greatest 
challenge for the United Nations.
The meeting also agreed to send UN's Deputy Special 
Representative on Afghanistan, Francesc Vendrell to Kabul 
immediately.

ATTACKS:
US war planes have been attacking fleeing Taliban forces 
from Kabul and other places.
An official of pentagon said US forces have struck armours, 
vehicles,
troops and Taliban leaderships targets.
The Defence Secretary Donald Ramsfeld said the war 
against the Taliban and Al-Qaeda network is far from over . 
He said the priority was still to hunt down the leaders and 
destroy their forces . He said military operations would 
continue and the US special forces were operating in 
Southern Afghanistan .
The Northern Alliance troops are reported approaching 
Kandahar still controlled by Taliban.
According to BBC the situation in the South of the country 
appears extremely fluid. The Taliban leadership is 
reportedly urged its troops to re-group and fight on.

NORTHERN ALLIANCE:
The Northern Alliance which has gained full control of Kabul 
says now it was the time that through the establishment of a 
broad-based government in Afghanistan, we can avoid all 
kinds of tyranny and injustice and lead ourselves to 
development.
In a statement in Kabul the Alliance said it will be inviting all 
Afghan groups in Kabul except Taliban to discuss their 
country's future.
A key member in the anti-Taliban leadership Younis 
Qanooni said we have entered here in Kabul to keep 
security and are still committed to the Council of National 
Unity which we have formed with the former King 
Muhammad Zahir Shah to form a broad-based government 
in the country.

UN-BRIEFING:
United Nations spokesman Stephanie Bunker says that 
situation in mazar-e-sharif and Kabul is deteriorating with 
reports of massacre by Northern Alliance troops.
She at a news briefing in Islamabad yesterday that the 
situation on the ground in Afghanistan is changing very 
quickly and we are hearing unconfirmed reports of summary 
executions in Mazar-e-Sharif.
She said the overall security situation in Mazar-e-Sharif 
remains somewhat unstable.

IRANIAN:
Iranian Interior Minister Seyed Abdol Vahed Mousavi Lary 
arrived in Islamabad last night on a three day visit to 
discuss bilateral and regional issues with Pakistan 
authorities.
Minister for Interior Moinuddin Haider received him at the 
airport.
Welcoming the Iranian delegation he expressed the hope 
that the visit would help further bolster Pak-Iran ties.
He said the visit would also help evolve a better future 
strategy in the face of situation prevailing in the region.
Iranian Interior Minister said Iran-Pakistan relations were 
spread over decades and would cement further through 
continued interaction.

ADB:
The Asian Development Bank has approved a soft loan of 
20.8 million dollars for basic infrastructure and 
improvement of urban services in twentyfour urban centers 
in the North-West Frontier Province.
The aim of the project is to improve the capacity of local 
governments to provide, operate and maintain essential 
services.

KASHMIR:
All Parties Hurriyet Conference has expressed grave 
concern over Indian Army's growing acts of terrorism in 
occupied Kashmir and mal-treatment with the detained 
Kashmiri leaders in jails.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the APHC appealed 
the world community to help stop grass human rights 
violations being committed by Indian troops.
A spokesman of the APHC in a statement in Srinagar said 
the detained leaders are not provided proper medical 
facilities whose health condition is deteriorating day by day. 
The spokesman while explaining the atrocities of Indian 
troops said the people are being harassed and youth are 
arrested and tortured in Pulwama of Pampure.
The Indian troops raided a house of a person in Nokadal in 
Srinagar and molested his mother and sister. The 
spokesman of the APHC strongly condemned this act of 
brutality and the people in the area strongly protested. 

US-RUSSIA:
The United States has agreed to cut its nuclear arsenal 
withdrawing thousands of weapons over the next ten years.
President Bush at his summit meeting told Russian 
President Vladimir Putin that American nuclear warheads 
would be reduced by up to two thirds, to a level of about two 
thousands weapons.
Speaking at a joint news conference Mr. Bush said this 
would not compromise US security.
Mr. Putin said he would try to respond but added that Russia 
wanted a reliable and verifiable agreement on cutting 
nuclear arms.
Both the leaders did not reach a deal on American plans for 
a new missile defence system that Russia regards as a 
breach of existing arms treaties.

Saddam Plans To Invade Iraqi Kurdistan:
 Saddam Hussein is planning a new adventure that would 
threaten the peace and security of Iraqi Kurdistan.
We have now sufficient information that points to an 
imminent military operation along the Dahouk, Arbbil and 
Sulaimania sectors. Saddam's move is designed to take 
advantage of the preoccupation of the international 
community and the allied forces and other resources in 
Afghanistan.
Saddam's plan is based on the following points:
1- Military mobilization: The first, second and fifth Corps of 
the Iraqi army are now mobilized along the borders with 
Iraqi Kurdistan. The Republican Guard is deployed as a 
second line behind the regular army. A number of units 
were seen dug-in in trenches and various armored units 
have received their full ration of ammunitions.
2- The use of militias: Saddam is also deploying Kurdish 
militias which has been created by the regime, Fidayee 
Saddam, Mujahidi Khalq (an Iranian terrorist group backed 
by the Iraqi regime), and some PKK units to create 
disturbance, and street fights, should the Kurds resort to 
militias warfare.
3- Clandestine Terrorist Activities: For the past few months, 
Saddam have been sending infiltrators and agents to carry 
out acts of sabotage throughout the Kurdish region. 
Intelligence agents have also been monitoring UN offices, 
NGOs and closely shadowing Iraqi opposition members. All 
roads that lead in or out of the area is being closely 
monitored and military and civilian intelligence officers are 
posted along all entrances to the region.
4- Political offensives: Recently, Saddam started to 
reactivate the so-called legislative and executive Kurdish 
assemblies. In actual fact, members of these assemblies 
are handpicked by Saddam and he has their total 
allegiance.
Saddam might feel that the international community is 
engaged at present in fighting terrorism in Afghanistan and 
elsewhere around the world. However, he should be fully 
aware that the INA, and the Iraqi people; Kurds and Arabs, 
are fully aware of his evil plans. While we appeal to the 
international community to stand firmly against Saddam's 
evil conspiracy, we appeal to our colleagues in the armed 
forces to be aware of the trap Saddam has prepared for 
them and take the opportunity to unite with the popular 
forces of the Iraqi people, to put an end to the rule of 
Saddam Hussein and his evil regime.

When Dissent Isn t Heroism

Calling Barbara Lee a Hero Denigrates the Valor of Our Real 
Heroes

Some in this country have lauded Congresswoman Barbara Lee for 
her  courageous stand  when she was the only member of Congress 
to vote against the September 14th resolution authorizing 
President Bush to use military force against those responsible 
for the attacks on America.

I submit that her vote and its accompanying justification were 
more a matter of political grandstanding than courage.

Ever since the horrific tragedies of September 11th there has 
been heated discussion in this country about the freedom of 
speech and the right to dissent. These rights are essential 
components of our free society.

We have come to a critical pass in our nation s history, 
however, where the concept of dissent has taken on a very 
peculiar character. Consider the high profile example of 
Congresswoman Barbara Lee.

In casting her  No  vote   and subsequently defending it to the 
news media   Ms. Lee warns that we must  not become the evil 
that we deplore.  For a Member of Congress who takes an oath to 
defend her country and its Constitution from  all enemies 
foreign and domestic  to equate national security with 
deplorable evil is not heroic   it is offensive and inexcusable.

Unfortunately, the  Blame America  crowd who support Lee, are 
locked into an antiquated and myopic view of our globe. 
Festering in the mindset of the Vietnam War, they are full of 
anger and hatred for the only country that tolerates their 
dissent. Actor Danny Glover described Ms. Lee as  inspiring  and 
author Alice Walker proclaimed her a  hero,  while she compared 
the observing of our government with the purging of her 
intestines. MSNBC contributor Jill Nelson one-upped them both by 
calling Lee  profoundly courageous. 

However, a review of Lee s record in Congress shows that her 
desire to aid repressive foreign regimes while condemning the 
government in which she serves is nothing new for Lee, but the 
same old, same old from the  Blame America  crowd. The only 
difference is that this time she did it after America had been 
shot in the back by the forces of terrorism with the first 
attack on our own soil since Pearl Harbor - with more than twice 
the loss of life, mostly civilian.

Lee has used her  right to dissent  to mislead and misinform the 
people of America, the media and her congressional district 
about what the September 14th resolution stated and what the 
intentions of our government are.

She characterized the resolution as a  blank check,  influencing 
MSNBC s Nelson, who incorrectly stated that Lee had refused  to 
give the president carte blanche to prosecute a war on 
terrorism.  Not true. In reality, the September 14th resolution 
addressed in absolutely specific language pursuing only those 
responsible for the September 11th attacks or those nations that 
support or harbor them. The uninformed in the news media, and 
Ms. Lee should have read it before spouting off.

Another Lee bit of misinformation is that the resolution was 
unconstitutional and that it abdicated the Congressional 
authority that is reinforced in the War Powers Resolution. 
Again, the resolution could not have been more explicit   it 
references the War Powers Resolution twice, including the 
declaration that:  Nothing in this resolution supersedes any 
requirement of the War Powers Resolution. 

Why Ms. Lee would lie to her constituents and to the media about 
the resolution she voted on probably is revealed in the 
exhortation she read on the floor of the House prior to casting 
her  No  vote. Citing the 1964 Gulf of Tonkin resolution, Ms. 
Lee whined,  this House abandoned its own constitutional 
responsibilities and launched our country into years of 
undeclared war in Vietnam.  She went on to  fear that we make 
the same mistake today.  Ms. Lee is the only member of Congress 
who cannot seem to grasp the difference between the foreign 
interventions that were sanctioned in the Vietnam War and our 
nation defending itself when it is brutally attacked on US soil. 
The largest single day loss of life in US history from any cause 
does not seem to have registered with Ms. Lee.

The right of free speech entitles Barbara Lee to condemn the 
United States government, its foreign policy and what she deems 
to be its proclivities for evil. But if we call her a hero for 
failing to uphold her constitutional duty under the rubric of 
her right to free speech, we are betraying the real heroes.

The real heroes are this nation s founding fathers who risked 
their own lives and well-being to provide us the right to free 
speech, and brave men and women like those on United flight #93, 
who rose up to stop an attack that may well have been aimed at 
one of Washington D.C. s Congressional office buildings. And, 
they are the front-line responders to terrorism the firefighters 
and police officers who rushed to the World Trade Center Towers 
to save thousands of people. And, they are the U.S. military 
personnel who fight to break the terrorist stronghold in 
Afghanistan today. These heroes have given their lives or put 
themselves in harms way so that Barbara Lee can continue to have 
the right to spew her toxic and misguided  Blame America  
rhetoric. How dare she call them  the evil that we deplore ?

It is therefore incumbent upon those of us who enjoy the right 
to free speech to call Ms. Lee s behavior exactly what it is   
shameful, repugnant, na ve, dangerous   so that all Americans, 
including the people of her district, can properly exercise 
their right to make sure she never has the platform of the 
United States Congress to disseminate her unfortunate views 
again. There is a difference between speaking your mind and 
violating your oath of office. Dissent is one thing; lies are 
another.

Experiencing the consequences of the irresponsible exercise of 
free speech   of twisting and suppressing truth   is something 
Ms. Lee has thus far escaped. Shame and censure are both 
examples of free speech. And it is time Ms. Lee heard a little 
bit of both. It s time to Dump Barbara Lee.

Then I learned the reason pacifists/leftists win in Berkeley is 
because - it is the students (who are not long term residents of 
Berkeley, but part-time - until graduation) that do the voting 
there.  And Not the full time residents.

Now I see, not only is she (now) limited to only representing 
Berkeley, with no chance of expanding her pacifist leadership 
over others.  But now, there's actually potential to oust her 
from congress entirely.  Audie Bock is running against her with 
a campaign slogan of: "It's O'K to Love America".  The pressures 
of the nation on Berkeley to oust this woman are just beginning.
 
Americans and American companies are pulling business from 
Berkeley.  Berkeley is really starting to feel the effects of 
their Anti-American stance.  Americans (from all the nation) 
will flood Bock's campaign coffers to defeat Lee.

Ousting this Paci-Lady (new term I just coined) is possible.

Could not agree more. Only last our week our Prime Minister 
received headlines from the British Press along the lines 
of 'get back to Britian, your country needs you more, you're 
just Pr.Bush's poodle..etc..etc. What do these great opinion

Potter, where all you have to do is wave a magic wand and hey 
presto!...world peace and prosperity for all. 

I'd say an fairly important pre-requisite to any of that EVER 
happening is to prevent psychotic fanatics from ploughing jet 
airliners into heavily populated cities and tracking down 
similar organisations hell bent on holding the world to ransom 
with the use of, (or threat of usage of) biological and god-
forbid...nuclear weapons. Has everybody forgotten the veiled 
threat not long ago from the Taliban spokesman in Pakistan 
warning his muslim brothers to 'stay out of tall buildings'. 

Every country has its pressing domestic issues, health, welfare, 
education, jobs etc, but THE FIRST and PRIMARY function of our 
leaders are to protect it's citizens from attack whether foriegn 
or domestic. 

Messers Bush and Blair actually got up and DID something, while 
everybody else just stood around and watched. Too many people 
take peace and security for granted, especially, it seems, 
certain members of the U.K press who at this point are strangely

I have a question... looking at all the bombing taking place

and we might never know the time and place of his death.  I 
think I remember hearing Bush or one U.S. official say something 
to that effect as well.  That would remove some amount of 
victory, maybe make it a little less satisfying.  I know a lot 
of people who want his death broadcast on television for the 
world to see.

Also, I wonder if the U.S. or one of its "western" allies make 
the parting shot, would OBL then be viewed as a great martyer to 
the crazies who are his followers?  Would it be better - if he 
was captured - to drop him off in a little village in 
Afghanistan and let the men and women there finish him off in 
their own way?  At least that would remove the complaint that

keep more of a peace between religions.  If Muslims were to

disagree.  I am most upset by people like that losing

I do agree that things are going to get much worse though. I 
don't really mean to be a pessimist, but there is some scary 
stuff going on disguised as peace. Very weird. 
I can't believe the thought of dismissing the current 
events-that's just blatant apathy about other human beings. 
Missun' was totally right about Jesus' message being so 
very simple. God does not ask the impossible of us. It really 
is no more difficult to love than it is to hate. People may say 
it is just easier to hate, but they are blind to temptation. Why 
not love? It makes no sense not to! We are all created in 
God's image, why can we not love that beauty which is 
innate in our neighbor? Religion has not served us well in 
the past and does not serve us well in the present. The faith 
aspect is indispensable, but more importantly, we all have 
the ability to know God-to love God and recieve God's love.  
God has come to us and asked for a relationship-practically 
begging us to accept His support. I could not ignore that, I 
hope noone else does in the long run - Humans have a 
horrible history of making bad decisions. If I am making 
anyone uncomfortable, forgive me. I just felt like I had to post 
my thoughts and feelings. To let everyone know that God 
truly is love.  Even if that is all I can tell you due to my 
mediocre communication skills.  I love God, I love my 
country, I love the world, I love all of you (even the few who 
irritate me) and I do this because there is nothing more 
valuable to do. 

I am a self-contradicting person sometimes and I know that 
war is not what God really wants, but I also know is that here 
on Earth, this war is justified somehow and I do want this to 
be a better, safer place to live. Though there is infinite love to 
go around, I know there is serious evil in this world. It seeps 
into those who create a vacuum in their hearts for it. 
Perhaps this following of religion in a hypnotic state creates 
it, I know there are many other things that allow evil to enter 
the hearts of mankind. I like it here on this webpage...I like 
the honesty and the raw emotion that people show. As a 
Christian, I very much want for the world to end...A lot of bad 
stuff happens here and the alternative is better, but that is a 
selfish way to think and I think the fact that Jesus said, "I 
have made you known to them, and will continue to make 
you known in order that the love you have for me may be in 
them[the world] and that I myself may be in them."(John 
18:3). 

It is right to fight hate, but to fight it with love is the better way. 
Granted, some people are closed to the truth and will never 
be open, so for the sake of peace we must end their lives. 
However, contrary to popular belief, Jesus did not come to 
bring peace, and we must exist through this absense of 
peace-still loving incessantly as He loves the world.
